SLIDELL, La. - A man that sheriff's office investigators believe has stolen more than $50,000 in equipment and merchandise from several homes on the Northshore and in Mississippi over the past few months has been arrested.
Jorge Alberto Munguia-Martinez, 32, was booked into the St. Tammany Paris jail Thursday on one count of theft over $1,500. Additional charges are expected.
According to St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office spokesman George Bonnett, surveillance video showed Martinez backing up a trailer into a Lacombe residence, loading up and taking a golf cart.
Bonnett said that investigation tied Martinez into five other theftson the Northshore. In fact, he said the trailer used to steal the golf cart was also stolen in a previous heist.
Bonnett also said that detectives were able to solve the case by using a general description of Martinez and his truck from the video. A patrol deputy made a stop of Martinez and interviewed him. A warrant was obtained for his arrest.
The sheriff's office said that during a subsequent interview with detectives, Martinez confessed to five different thefts.
While recovering various stolen items from area pawn shops, detectives learned that Martinez had pawned items stolen from Hancock County, Mississippi, as well. The Hancock County Sheriff?s Office is now involved in a joint investigation into Martinez?s crime spree
