Odd criminal news - Houston Criminal Law Blog

Sometimes news of criminal and legal goings-on are odd - at least from my point of view. Take the following observations, for instance.

*A woman who was hours away from marriage - instead allegedly killed her fiance by stabbing him. No motive has been released at this time - and it appears the woman is more or less incoherent - begging officers to check on the man yet again to validate his death - and begging to go home to her family. Often the line between love and hate is thinner than we can ever realize.

*Observation 2 - more and more the legal system is inserting itself into the eating habits of today?s youth - and I?m sorry but it reeks of ?Big Brother? with the government trying to manipulate the diets of kids. Now, there is plenty of evidence that obesity IS a widespread problem across the country and not just with kids but adults as well. I support some efforts that are being taken to get kids moving and eating better.

But laws that attempt to ?finesse? or otherwise manipulate a child?s eating habits - well that may be going just a little too far. At what point are parents held responsible for their child?s upbringing - and even for their own health.

That?s how I see it.
